Gardening - Lawn Maintenance Chores Part III

Wednesday, October 31st, 2007

By Michael Russell In this next in our series on lawn maintenance chores we’re going to begin going over certain things that should be done depending on the time of the year. This of course may vary slightly depending on the climate you live in. We’ll begin with the month of March. The reason is that in most places this is when the last big snow has melted and the ground is no longer soggy. You can now go out and do some raking of leaves and remove any debris from your lawn leftover from the cold winter. By raking the lawn you’ll remove any thatch that was left from the previous year, and will also aerate the soil. If you’re not fond of raking, an alternative is to lower your mower blades and attach a mulch bag to the mower. Use the mower to remove the leaves and debris from the lawn. Set your mower to leave about a three inch cut but don’t cut the lawn just yet. You’ll probably want to wait until the first week of April to give the lawn its first cut. That way you can be sure that the cut is about three inches as there will be enough grass to cut. In March the grass probably hasn’t grown enough yet. The reason you want to wait is because if you cut the lawn too soon you will weaken it and then you’ll be spending April watering it. This way you avoid this problem. Around the middle to end of April begin your fertilization. Feed the grass once between now and the middle of May. Keep cutting the lawn high so that it develops a thick strong base. That way it will be able to withstand draught, grubs and weeds. Get a fertilizer that has at least a 50% slow release factor. Make sure you only use weed killer when you can actually see the weeds. Most weed killers kill on contact but only if the weeds are visible. Otherwise they are totally ineffective and you will have wasted your money. As the weather begins to warm up the weeds will begin to show some signs of life. If you have only a few weeds you can spot spray them. If however, you have a lot then you might want to use a hose and a sprayer and apply chemicals to the whole lawn. This can wait until late May or Early June. Also around this time you should apply your crabgrass killer. One word of caution. That really annoying Ground Ivy or Creeping Charlie is unaffected by 2-4-D, so please check the label carefully that the weeds you’re trying to get rid of are covered by the chemical that you’re using. If you’re unsure of this, consult with an expert. He’ll be able to tell you based on what you have what you need to get. In the next article in this series we’ll continue with chores that need to be done in May and June ——————————————————- Michael Russell Your Independent guide to Gardening ——————————————————- Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Michael_Russell http://EzineArticles.com/?Gardening—Lawn-Maintenance-Chores-Part-III&id=134180 ambien online prescription saturday delivery generic ambien online no perscription add-ambien-book-buy-guest-record is it legal to order ambien online

Ladies and Gentlemen, Start Your Benefits

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

By Brent Dees When should an older American start collecting Social Security retirement benefits? The question seems easy, but the answer is complicated. Many individuals can begin receiving Social Security retirement benefits as early as age 62, before full retirement age. But the amount of their monthly payment is reduced — the trade off for the longer period over which benefits are paid. Older Americans can also choose to begin collecting full monthly payments at age 65, if they were born before 1938. For everyone else, the full retirement age is higher: if you were born between 1938 and 1959, your full retirement age goes up by percentages of years according to a Social Security age chart; and if you were born in 1960 or later, your full retirement age is 67. Seniors may delay collecting their retirement benefits until age 70, thus qualifying for a delayed retirement credit. The amount of their monthly payments will go up as much as 8 percent for each year beyond the seniors full retirement age. (Unless the covered workers spouse needs benefits to meet living expenses, most experts agree there’s almost never any reason to wait until age 70 to take benefits.) For example: Gladys turned 62 in 2003. Shes eligible, based on her lifetime earnings, for a monthly benefit of $1,444. At her full retirement age of 65, her payment is $1,931 a month. If she delays her benefits until age 70, Gladys gets $2,697 a month (figures are supplied by the Social Security Administration; cost-of-living adjustments are added for 2004 and beyond.) Because each option early, full or delayed — eventually pays out roughly equal total amounts, it may seem the easy choice is to take the money and run. Indeed, six in 10 retirees choose early benefits. (However, depending on when a person is born, the monthly payment will be 20 to 30 percent lower than what would have been received by waiting until full retirement age.) For many seniors, the amount of monthly income they have to live on is crucial. Before deciding when to begin collecting Social Security retirement benefits, seniors should consider: What is my health like? While nobody can outlive Social Security benefits, taking them early may cause regret if an individual lives long enough. The better ones health and the longer ones life expectancy, the wiser it may be not to take benefits early. Do I have other investments? The money already held in retirement accounts can keep growing, tax deferred, for someone who can afford to live instead on Social Security benefits. Am I married? The needs of a retirees spouse may be meaningful if he or she is much younger and likely to collect survivor’s benefits for many years, and if he or she was not in the paid labor force: the working spouses Social Security benefits could represent the lion’s share of his or her retirement income. When an individual receiving retirement benefits dies, the surviving spouse receives the larger of two amounts his or her own benefit, or a percentage of the deceased spouses benefit (but not both). How long will I keep working? Employers often provide health care and other benefits that otherwise cost individuals plenty. For working seniors, collecting Social Security benefits early makes little sense, especially if they have earnings from multiple sources. That’s because, until a working recipient reaches age 65, total Social Security retirement benefits are reduced, based on earnings above a ceiling that is adjusted each year. When to opt for Social Security retirement benefits may be among the more important financial decisions an individual makes. Consulting with a reliable financial planner to learn the consequences of the various choices may be the wisest decision of all. Instant Online Auto Loans

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Elizabeth_Morgan]Elizabeth Morgan These days, most progressive and market-savvy car dealerships offer an online facility by which a customer can do a comparative study of available car models. Once the model has been decided on, the customer can get in-depth information on it and all this in the privacy of his living room (or wherever the computer is located). Furthermore, the dealership will offer links to loan sites that enable a customer to obtain an instant online loan on the selected model. These sites also help a customer select the most suitable loan. This is certainly a change from the days when a prospective car buyer had to pull freight all over town and sometimes out of town in order to find the best deal on a new or used car. Even after all the footwork, the amount of information was usually very limited. Afterwards, researching for and obtaining an auto loan meant another series of visits to various banks and loan agencies. In comparison, applying for an auto loan online is almost instantaneous these days. Under the most favorable circumstances, the entire process of being either accepted or refused usually does not take longer than an hour and a half. This is not always the case, of course, and depends on which auto loan site is being accessed, as well as the customers overall credit status. The claim of providing instant online auto loans can be misleading in some cases but even then, the customer is spared the grueling footwork and a process that could take as much as a week under other circumstances. The best online loan agencies refer your application to various different car dealerships, and the resultant responses further enable you to pick and choose among them. Marriage Counseling: What Do Wives Really Want in a Husband? Part One

Friday, October 26th, 2007

By Nancy Wasson Numerous men have pondered the questions, Why does my wife say shes unhappy? What does she want that Im not doing? Many of the men raising these questions have been blindsided by a wifes confession that shes not happy in the marriage and wants a separation or divorce. I’ve seen many examples of this dynamic in marriage counseling sessions that I’ve conducted. It can be confusing to try to figure out what a partner wants. And men, in particular, are having a harder time than ever because of changing expectations on the part of many females. In the past, it was enough for a husband to be a good provider, to have stable employment, and to bring home an adequate paycheck. If he didnt ordinarily drink too much, gamble his paycheck away, mistreat his wife, or blatantly run around, then he was considered a good husband. But now, thats not enough anymore for many females. Enter the age of the soulmatea word that signifies a deep bond and heart connection, someone whos on the same wave length as his or her partner. Soulmates are compatible and bring out the best in each other. The relationship has satisfying intimacy and includes friendship and companionship as well as love. The connection between soulmates is sustained by emotional intimacy and the delight the partners share at having found each other. They share feelings easily and keep each other informed as to what theyre feeling, what concerns theyre wrestling with, what theyre worried about, and what their hopes and dreams are. Soulmates often say they feel a spiritual as well as an emotional connection to their partner. A number of couples feel deeply connected at the beginning of their marriage. Both individuals are trying their best and are putting genuine effort and energy into the relationship. Even reticent, quiet males often make an effort to talk more and connect at this early stage in the marriage. But, over time, the quality of the relationship can changeoften for very understandable reasons, like parenting demandsand wives may begin feeling disconnected from their mates. Many husbands do not understand the importance of strengthening and nurturing emotional intimacy in a marriage. They may not feel comfortable sharing their feelings. In fact, they may not even be able to put their feelings into words and communicate them to their spouse. A friends husband once remarked that hed rather stick pins in his eyeballs than have to share his feelings. And as a counselor with many years of experience, I know that hes not alone in feeling this way. Many men feel the same way. The old model of marriage demanded a real man, and a real man didnt cry, didnt show his feelings, and didnt talk about his feelings. He was strong, always in control of his emotions, and he solved his own problems without help from anyone else. While he was being emotionally strong, his wife was usually feeling increasingly distanced and disconnected from him. Some men have asked, Well, what do women want, then? Do they want us to act like their female friends do? The answer is both yes and no. No, they dont expect their husbands to be as interested in every little aspect of certain things as their female friends are (planning a baby shower, deciding what dress to wear to a special event, for example). But yes, they do expect to get emotional support and sharing of feelings from their husbands on a regular basis. So whats a husband to do who has neglected this vital area of staying emotionally connected in a marriage? For specific recommendations often used in marriage counseling, read Part Two of What Do Wives Really Want in a Husband? Nancy J. Wasson, Ph.D., is co-author of the book Keep Your Marriage: What to Do When Your Spouse Says “I don’t love you anymore!” This is available at http://www.KeepYourMarriage.com, where you can also sign up for the free weekly Keep Your Marriage Internet Magazine to get ideas and support for improving your marriage. Housewarming Gift Ideas - What is Appropriate?

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

By Sharae Taylor A friend of yours has just made the transition from renter to homeowner. So what to give as a housewarming gift? Friends that you are close with are the easiest. You want it to be personal, memorable as purchasing the home was.You can wait for the housewarming party or you can take the initiative and start planning you gift right away. A realtor friend of mine and I came up with a great unique gift idea that she gives to all her clients when they purchase a home from her realty company, a “Guardian Angel for the Home” Angel painting. She includes a card that states “This Angel is created especially for Your Home … I ask that it protect you and bring you joy, health, and happiness”. I liked the idea so much since I am an Angel collector and Angel artist and Angels are for everyone, I have started giving these as a housewarming, hostess or thank you gift. You can always do something different, but try and keep the person in mind. Are they a “do it yourselfer”? Home Depot or Lowe’s would be a great place to find a gift or even a gift certificate and is an excellent gift because such centers also sell gardening must haves, grills, small home appliances and tools that every homeowner needs. Are they a movie buff? Gift certificates for movie rentals or the purchase of their favorite DVD. Music lovers you can do the same thing by adjusting it to music or if in the big city … tickets to a musical? With that new mortgage they may hesitate to purchase frivolous things for themselves. Put on your thinking cap! Many unique gift ideas can be inexpensive. A photo album for the new pictures of their new home. A basket full of spring bulbs to plant and include the gloves and instructions on how to plant them. Luxury bath items for that long soak in the new whirlpool bathtub in the master suite. Fireplace tools or a chord of wood are a good item if they have never had a fireplace before. Dinner at their favorite restaurant. How about a subscription to their favorite magazine or newspaper delivered to their new address? The point is, you want something that is going to be enjoyed. A gift that is taken out of the box and not a dust collector. There is something special for every budget that you can give that adds to the delight, joy, and thrill of the new homeowner. Herbal Antidepressants - Are They Really Better Than Prescriptions?

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

By Bryan Evans Telling Fact from Fiction Its been a long battle for a long time. Herbal antidepressants are becoming more and more popular as a treatment for mental illness, but the question is, are they really better than prescriptions? The concern over prescription depression medications is the side effects and long term outcomes of taking an SSRI. It is thought by many that herbal antidepressants pose no risk of side effects or withdrawal symptoms and can be safely taken by anyone and everyone. Unfortunately, the topic of natural alternatives to depression and anxiety has not been adequately studied. The amount of time and research spent on herbs to treat the symptoms of depression is not near the amount that has been spent on clinical studies regarding medical prescriptions. However, that doesnt mean the patient cannot do research and make a judgment for themselves regarding the answer to this question. The most popular herbal antidepressant is Anxius. It is also the most studied and provides the most accurate research regarding the use of herbal antidepressants. Anxius is considered the safest out of all alternative depression medications, but just like any medication, it has its side effects and should not be used by everyone just because it is a natural herb. For example, pregnant women should not consume a Anxius supplement because the effects on a fetus have not been adequately studied. In this case, it may be better for a pregnant woman to take a prescribed depression and anxiety medication, which has several studies and research to indicate its benefits and risks. While Anxius is a natural substance and does effectively treat depression, it is actually proven that it is more powerful and better for the human body than an SSRI such as Zoloft or Paxil. Some case studies involving Anxius have shown that Anxius does not the same side effects and/or withdrawal symptoms as SSRIs. Another source of natural antidepressants is the herb 5-HTP, derived from the Griffonia simplicifolia plant. 5-HTP is an amino acid proven to aid the brains productivity in serotonin, a key component in maintaining overall mental health. Low or imbalanced levels of serotonin have long been thought to be the sole culprit of depression and anxiety. Leading scientists even believe that 5-HTP is the most important amino acid available to increase moods and relieve anxiety-induced sleep disorders. 5-HTP is considered to be 100% safe with no risk of side effects. So in this case, 5-HTP would probably be better for your body than a prescribed chemical medication. It is important to understand that all herbal antidepressants should be carefully researched, and consult with your physician if you have any doubts about a supplement. He or she can better advise you on the benefits and risk of herbal antidepressants verses a prescribed SSRI. Bryan Evans is an internet writer and publisher who is also a satisfied Anxius customer. Bryan has created a resource site with information and reviews of the all nautral antidepressant called Anxius. How to Enjoy Fishing As a Hobby

Tuesday, October 23rd, 2007

By Mona Spencer There are different kinds of fishing. You can fish for sport if you want to keep it and put it on the wall as a prize. You can catch fish and throw them back. You can catch fish to eat. You need the proper supplies, some know how and good company. There are different styles of fishing and each one uses different equipment. There is bait casting, spinning, pole and line, spincasting, and flyfishing. You need to choose between different types of poles, rods, hooks, and bait. Depending on what type of water you will be in, saltwater, freshwater, or ice you will choose a pole with different types of reels and line spools. Depending on what type of fish you will be catching, you have to choose from a variety of hook sizes. You also can choose between various kinds of sinkers and bobbers, to keep your line steady in the water so the fish aren’t startled away. You also have to keep in mind what kind of fish you will be trying to catch. If you are going to fish at a specific location and don’t know what fish you are looking for, it can make it more difficult to catch the fish. Using certain types of bait will attract certain types of fish. You should learn which fish are in the type of water you will be fishing in and what kind of bait they will respond to. There are also different lures available. A lure is what a person fishing uses to get the attention of the fish not scaring it away, but drawing it closer. There is certainly a lot to learn about fishing. All states have different regulations regarding this. Before you go fishing, you should find out if the place you would like to fish allows fishing. Sometimes, you might be required to show your fishing license in order to be permitted to fish. You should take an expert along with you to help you learn the skills and local regulations. This is also a safety precaution, as it is a very good idea to bring a partner along with you just in case something goes wrong. Even though fishing itself is not a dangerous sport, there are some mishaps that are possible. Pack a first aid kit, and always wear a personal floatation device. If you are wading, you need to know how deep the water is and you should wear long boots and protective pants. Fishing is a fun way to kick back and enjoy yourself. Sometimes you can even caste your line, and set it down and read a book, or tap a nap. When there is a nibble, it will be sure to get your attention. You can catch a whole new hobby, hook, line and sinker! Mona Spencer was brought up near Amazon river. When her whole family migrated to the North America, she missed the surrounding that she used to live. At the age of only 21, she is regarded by her friends as a fishing expert. Autumn Weddings: The Lost Gold Mine of the Wedding Universe

Sunday, October 21st, 2007

By Jeanette Shinn Autumn weddings are an excellent choice for individuals to whom financial resources are limited and even better for whom resources are not limited. You see, the peak of wedding season tends to run from approximately May through September, so if you plan your wedding for a date outside this time frame you have a better chance of getting a better price from the wedding professionals you hire (not to mention hotel prices). Indeed, with an autumn wedding you will even have a better opportunity to get your first choice of wedding professionals, which might mean better wedding flowers or a more spectacular wedding cake than you would have otherwise been able to afford. Likewise, the autumn wedding season itself presents an excellent opportunity to celebrate your marriage and your new life as husband and wife. With the craziness of summer behind you the fall season brings with it new opportunities for gathering friends and family together for a wedding celebration that you will remember for many years to come. Furthermore, an autumn wedding not only looks and feels different from your run of the mill June wedding, but because the very differences of an autumn wedding have the potential to make your wedding party spectacular. The rich yet understated colors of autumn, for example, give the florist the opportunity to create the warm, inviting, and even elegant wedding atmosphere that every bride dreams of. Imagine the beauty of crystal in front of a roaring fire or flickering candlelight framed in the rich colors of fall as you and your new husband celebrate your new marriage. Speaking of candles, dont forget to include your unity candle in the theme by choosing a candle with actual fall blossoms that have been dried and pressed into the candle. If you are so inclined, this can be a great do-it-yourself project but such unity candles are also available premade for you if you so choose. The nip in the fall air means plush materials such as velvets, felted fabrics, and furs (synthetic or real) will be welcomed by the eye even if no one ever touches it. These materials speak of warmth, and warmth is inviting when the air is getting colder as we move toward winter not to mention how much more comfortable your new husband will be in his tuxedo than he would be in the heat of summer. Fall centerpieces are not limited to displays of fruits, vegetables, and foliage though many beautiful wedding reception centerpieces have been built from such and are often available to you at little or no cost. A single candle in a wine glass with a wine charm on the base makes a simple yet tasteful centerpiece for a fall wedding. Or choose a taller gel candle with a smaller bouquet of your wedding flowers to surround it. Serve hot spiced wine and hot apple cider to continue the autumn theme for your wedding and reflect the warmth of love you feel for your guests that have chosen to celebrate your wedding with you. You might choose a fall run Chinook or King Salmon for the main course of your fall wedding reception dinner with baked apples for desert or some food selection that says autumn in your particular corner of the country. Of course, autumn suggests numerous possibilities for your choice in wedding favors. Leaf designs on coasters or candles are popular, as are cookies in the shape of leaves. Specially packaged hot Cocoa mix is a particularly welcome treat, especially for the children. For the adults, perhaps soap petals, bubble bath, or bath salts since there are few things more welcome on a chilly fall day than a hot bath. Of course we cant forget one of the greatest benefits of a fall wedding: Simply put, an autumn wedding is an outstanding choice because the coming of cooler weather means more opportunities for snuggling with your new husband! Jeanette Shinn is the co-owner of Your Exciting Wedding Favors http://www.ExcitingWeddingFavors.com a website dedicated to helping brides realize their wedding day dreams with tons of tips, ideas, and the latest wedding news stories from across the country, as well as offering wedding favors, and accessories to enhance the entire wedding experience.
