Brochure Creation For Beginners

Saturday, March 15th, 2008

By Janice Jenkins As my chosen title suggests, this is an article intended to give marketing amateurs a simplified step-by-step process on how to come up with a brochure that might not be the most spectacular marketing piece anyone’s ever come up with, but one that’s effective enough to drive the point. Brochures are commonly known as those folded pieces of paper stacked together on the front desk, in the lobby of a restaurant or hotel, or handed out during trade shows and storefronts. Simply put, brochures are very accessible to the public. The challenge, and also the goal we’re going for, is how do you make a brochure effective enough so that it won’t end up in the trash? Let’s break it down to small parts. First off, what is the nature of your business and who is your target market? With the awareness of who your target readers are, the next step would be to think of the possible questions your readers might have. Some examples would be: what services do they provide, how much is it, do they have a website, can I buy online, is it a walk-in type of store and so on. It is also best to arrange the answers in the same sequence your reader might be asking those questions. Knowing who your target audience is will help you narrow down possible designs you could use for your brochure. For instance, if your target market is young people, you might want to do a bit of research on the latest design trends or concepts out there. As an example, I’ve noticed a lot of vector art designs lately (just think iPod). It is always good to incorporate a concept or identity onto your design that would set you apart from the rest. What about trying a different shape for a change? A different folding style perhaps? Use your creativity and imagination. A different paper stock? Most brochure printing companies have various brochure stocks and other brochure options available now. The possibilities are endless! Secondly, how do you entice the reader to turn the page and keep reading?Don’t put all your eggs in one basketin this case, one page. Try not to stuff everything on the front page. Play around with tactical methods on how to spread out information on each page to get your readers hooked long enough to look at all faces of your brochure. Keep your statements brief yet concise. Organize your words and lines such that they impart your ideas within as much as a 2-second glance. Use your business’ selling points as headlines. This will encourage your reader to want to know more and read the supporting details you have provided. Lastly, how do you make your reader pocket your brochure?Based on the nature of your business, you can provide helpful tips or information that people can use as reference even if they don’t purchase your product or service. For instance, if you’re making a brochure for a hair salon, you could probably provide a chart of hairstyles that go with different face shapes. As an overall finish for your brochure, make sure whatever text or design or tag line you think about printing there, leaves your reader confident about your business. By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Adam_Caitlin]Adam Caitlin As mobile technology move forward, mobile phone designers have in a way neglected the aesthetic beauty of the device and seemed to be more inclined to create gizmos with futuristic looks. 5 Mistakes Women Make When Dating a New Man

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

By Connie Ragen Green When women first begin dating a new man they tend to make mistakes that will eventually cause the relationship to end. These mistakes can easily be avoided if women will take the time and make the effort to avoid them. Here are 5 mistakes that women make when dating a man: Not telling the man your likes and dislikes People only know what we communicate to them. If you are a vegetarian and you tell him you love to barbeque steaks every night this will finally become a problem. Tell him about yourself so that he can get to know the real you. If you continue to do things you dont like or enjoy you will soon resent him for not reading your mind.Changing your life completely for him Do not change or cancel plans that you have already made with other people. It is nice to show a man that you are interested and want to spend lots of time with him, but if you drop everything and everyone to only be with him he will get nervous and back away from you.Believing that he will change over time Adults do not change too much as they get older. If your man is habitually late he will probably continue to do it. If he is a smoker he will probably smoke for as long as you know him. If he has too many things that you would like for him to change, perhaps you just need to change to another man.Not believing what he says People tell us who they are. Women are notorious for thinking that men are saying one thing and mean another. Thats us. Women do that but men usually don not. If your man tells you he doesnt like the beach dont keep talking about taking a trip to Hawaii. By believing what he says you show him that you are intelligent and trusting.Making excuses for his behavior There is no excuse for bad behavior. If he drinks too much and belittles you do not make excuses for him. If he is unkind to you and says it is because he had a bad day at work do not make excuses for him. If you make plans to go out with another couple and he cancels at the last minute because he had something more important to do, dont make excuses for him. You get it now. Dont make excuses for his bad behavior. That is who he is and you need to find someone else.Staying in a relationship with someone that you are not honest with, who you will cancel all of your plans for, who you expect to change at some future point in time, who you think is just saying one thing when he really means another, who has bad behavior that you keep excusing is not a good idea. Get out of the relationship now before you feel terrible about yourself, become very unhappy, and begin to blame him for all of your problems. There are many wonderful men out there who are looking for wonderful women. Also, just because one man is not a good partner for you does not mean that they will not be good with someone else. Life is too short to be with someone we are incompatible with. Connie Ragen Green is a motivational writer, speaker, and mentor. A Look At Some Of The Best Classic Toys

Sunday, March 9th, 2008

By Gregg Hall As time goes on, people’s definitions of things that are “old-school” or “classic” become different. Whether talking to an elderly person about blocks, or a younger person about gigapets, some toys will always feel classic. Others, on the other hand, will surely always be considered classic. A few toys that are inherently classics are puzzles, barbies, yo-yos, and balls & bats. Blocks used to be generic in design. You’d find them in one basic size and one basic shape. Today, however, you can find a large selection of a variety of blocks. Having a variety gives you options to expand your mind, however, even with the traditional square wooden blocks (which you can still find today), you can make many different things. The best thing about blocks? They are very durable. Similar to blocks, they too, were once generic. Basic size for basic designs. Now however, there is a large selection of Lego’s as well. Puzzles are a safe-bet gift. They are helpful learning tools and stimulating to the mind. The best thing about puzzles is that there are so many different types of puzzles, which could satisfy almost anyone. There are large wooden pieces with pegs for children, simplistic 100 piece puzzles, hard 1,000 piece puzzles,3D puzzles. From Disney characters, to animals, to scenery, puzzles offer a plethora of themes. With all the different themes and difficulty levels, you can find a puzzle for about anyone. Barbie dolls were desired from day one. The well-marketed product planted its heart into almost every girl’s heart. This, of course, gained Barbie many friends and accessories. That combined with the fact that they’re easy to transport and fairly inexpensive makes them timeless. Yo-yos are one of the most simple toys, yet one of the best loved. Easy to afford, and challenging, yo-yos were an instant classic. You first learn to use it in a basic manner, but once you do that, you can learn to do tricks with it as well. This inexpensive toy becomes far more advanced than simply up and down. People spend hours trying to perfect yo-yo tricks. Children and adults alike love throwing balls around, basketball, soccer, football. Many little league teams form in childhood, where children learn teamwork and participating in sports. The baseball and bat will probably remain on the “classics list” for quite some time, as they are fun, social, and easy to enjoy. Regardless of how long a toy has been around, it is unlikely the classics will die out. If anything, they will simply advance to keep with the time, but you can never go wrong with blocks, puzzles, Barbie, yo-yos, and balls, as they will probably continue to remain classics. The Fun Art of Making Candles

Friday, March 7th, 2008

By Marjorie Broodie Is it easy? Absolutely, however you will want to follow safety tips first. This is just a guide for beginners to make simple candles. (This requires adult supervision if children are involved.) First, you will need the following supplies handy for safety, such as: Baking Soda, Fire Extinguisher, pair of pot handles, and pot lids. For general supplies to get started, you will need: Double Boiler, Metal Pouring Pot, Metal Spoon, Hammer, Screw Driver, Pencil, Scissors, Measuring Spoon, Primed Wick, Mold Sealer, Tape Measure, Kitchen Scale, Wax, Waxed Paper, Tongs, Candle Dye Chip (optional). This time around, we will try the basic dipping method: A tapered candle is made from dipping the wick carefully using something like a pencil wrapped midpoint of the wick. As each side is dipped in the vat of wax a layer of wax coats the wick. How thick you wish your candle to become, depends on how many times it is dipped into the vat of wax. Second, use wax paper to cover your workspace. Warning; Never allow wax to drop on heat producing elements, such as fire or anything that generates heat; wax is highly flammable. Never pour wax down drain. It will harden when cool and will create a serious clog. Third, melt wax in your double boiler to 158 degrees, place dye chip in melted wax and mix until completely dissolved. 1)Next, pour wax into dipping vat - a large metal coffee bean container will do. 2) Cut wick to length of candle X 2 (or to make 2 candles - one candle on each side), plus an extra 2 inches altogether. 3) Hold wick in center by pencil and dip in vat up to 1 inch below pencil. Wait 1 minute, then lift wick from vat - make sure neither ends of the wick touch. 4) Make sure the candles harden, then continue the dipping process until desired width is achieved. Also, use the scissors to clip the bottom so that you have a flat surface. 5) For a glossy finish, increase heat to 180 degrees. Lastly, hang candles and allow to dry, harden and set. A Guide to the Senior Mind

Thursday, March 6th, 2008

By Jeffrey Hauser I never really considered myself a senior until I received my AARP card in the mail the week I turned 50. Now Im fast approaching 60 and its somewhat hard to ignore. I remember when, just a few years back, I thought that 80 was ancient an now Im not so sure. But I have noticed that I am changing and looking at my life a bit differently. I wonder if other senior citizens are of the same ilk? They must be because I read about some of these thoughts in the AARP magazine articles. So, as a public service to those who are of our age group and the other boomers who are slowly joining us, I am writing this article. There are many issues that seniors face but some that stand out more than others. With all our worldly experience, you would think that we could cope better. That depends on how well we adapt and how much we can accept change itself. Here are some examples, in no particular order: Most technology drives us crazy. Especially the remote with all those other needless extra buttons. We still think about sex, but arent always able to perform at previous levels. We tend to forget certain things but we cant remember what they are.We have certain body functions that are out of control. Some result in embarrassment so we dont talk about them in public. We worry more about small aches and pains but take lots of vitamins figuring that should cure just about everything anyway. We dont get the likes of Brittany Spears, Paris Hilton, or Justin Timberlake, or, depending on our age, we dont recognize their names. We cant understand the current hip hop or rap music and its always too loud.We pay more attention to news about social security and Medicare. We wonder about how our money will last if we live to be 100.We think and ponder how the past decade slipped by so quickly. We drive past a retirement home and have mixed emotions. We dye our hair and think it will make us look younger. Even though were 80.We try to keep up with the latest computers, email, and programs because we realize that they are important research tools and can help us keep in touch. We wonder if the younger people could even imagine a world of black and white TV, no microwave s or cell phones. We drive more cautiously and buy cars that are more practical than good looking. We still use terms like spiffy, groovy, cool, and swell. We worry about our kids, although they are in their twenties, thirties, forties, etc.We know we may be older, but we are still smart and need to pass on our knowledge to the next generation, or the world will end as we know it. Thats about all the ideas I have on that subject for now. I need to stop and go to the bathroom anyway. And I think its time to take my afternoon pills. So, with that said, if I can come up of any more Ill feature them in a follow-up article if I can remember the name of this website. Do You Do Dating Disasters? The Most Common Male Dating Delusions Revealed

Wednesday, March 5th, 2008

By Cheryl Ashbrook What causes dating disasters? Most people will have at least one disastrous date in their lifetime of dating experiences which they will hopefully learn from but for some people it seems that one disastrous dating experience follows another. However, there are some very common dating delusions that many men are under and being aware of them could increase your chances of dating success. Showing off; you will undoubtedly have many delightful qualities that will attract the girl of your dreams but there are ways of letting her know about them. It doesn’t matter if you are telling her you have a sense of humour, earn a massive salary or like to save Rwandan children, the effect will be the same; it will turn her off. If you are genuinely funny demonstrate it in what you say and what you write. If you are a successful businessman then let it shine through in the things you do and your lifestyle and if you have charitable tendencies then discussing the issues rather than your contribution will impress her much more. Only being interested in yourself; when men are nervous they tend to talk about themselves, their car, their job, their favourite sports team etc. Nervous or not, take the time to find out about her and show some genuine interest. Ask her some basic questions about what she likes and thinks. If you are trying to make contact with someone through an online dating site this is particularly important; keep your initial email short and show interest in her rather than talk about yourself. Appearing to lack ambition and drive; fundamentally women want to be taken care of and being ambitious and knowing what you want from life is one way to demonstrate this ability to women. You don’t have to want to be the next CEO of a global corporation, but you should have some goals and ambition in life that you strive for. Don’t forget that women have their own ambition and drive too though. Mixing up being a gentleman with being chauvinistic; most women like to have the door held open for them and generally feel taken care of. This does not mean they want to be controlled, belittled or kept! Your date may be more intelligent, more highly paid or more ambitious than you are so don’t talk down to her and always treat her as an equal with respect and thoughtfulness. Not caring about your appearance; whilst beauty is most certainly in the eye of the beholder, it shows a complete lack of respect, both for yourself and your date, to not bother to wash and put on clean clothes before you meet. Don’t go overboard, but do pay attention to personal hygiene and cleanliness and wear something she won’t be embarrassed being seen in public with you in. Trying too hard with your appearance; if you are too perfectly groomed and styled it may be off putting as it looks like you are trying too hard, which in turn can make you look desperate. There is nothing wrong with a guy who likes to look good and has an interest in clothes but if this is the case you will have natural style. If you don’t, stick to the basics of being clean and presentable and leave the latest style to those who wear it naturally. Being indecisive; there is nothing worse than indecision in a man. Be ready to make suggestions during your date and if she doesn’t mind, then make the choice. It’s important to ask what she wants but it is also important to take the lead if she indicates that is what she wants. Finally, don’t assume you know what she is thinking. Assumption by either party is often the start of dating disaster. Asking her opinion, how she feels about something or what she would like is a much better way of getting your dating future off on the right step than assuming you know best. If You Want To keep From Being Scammed by Plastic Surgeons Then Read This Article

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Rose Lindy Do not have any cosmetic surgery procedure until you have completed a cost benefit analysis. The reason you want to do this is because it will help you decide if the large expense you will incur from cosmetic surgery is worth it. The reason you need to be so careful about the expense is because most cosmetic surgery is not covered by insurance. The exceptions to this may be if you are having reconstructive surgery done after an accident or if you have had a birth defect. Also people who are in constant pain that may be relieved through plastic surgery may be able to have the expense covered by their insurance. In addition to getting a good procedure done at an excellent price you want to have good doctor. Make sure you get a board certified plastic surgeon. With a board certified plastic surgeon you will know that they have had training and experience. It would be best if you can get a referral from your doctor or from someone who has had cosmetic surgery done. You may also want to find a doctor who specializes in the specific operation you are interested in. For example, if you want a face lift, find a doctor who specializes in facelifts instead of a doctor who does many different procedures. This may make you more comfortable because you will know they have plenty of practice in facelifts or whatever procedure you are having done. The following list is an average cost of cosmetic surgery. Of course, as we all know, these costs will vary depending on where you live and what doctor your use. Liposuction: Eighteen hundred to ten thousand Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck): Thirty eight hundred to nine thousand Rhinoplasty (Nose): Three thousand to twelve thousand Forehead Lifts: Three thousand Facelift, Neck Lift: Three thousand to twelve thousand Torn Earlobe Repair: Four hundred fifty to six hundred fifty Blepharoplasty (Eyelids): Fifteen hundred to seven thousand Eyelid Ptosis: Three thousand two hundred fifty Lip Enhancement: Three hundred to five thousand Rhinoplasty (Nose): Three thousand to twelve thousand Otoplasty (Ears) Twenty eight hundred to forty five hundred Breast Lift: Twenty eight hundred to nine thousand Breast Augmentation: Five thousand to seven thousand Breast Reduction: Forty two hundred to ten thousand Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck): Thirty eight hundred to nine thousand Naval Surgery: Eighteen hundred Thigh Lift: Thirty five hundred Arm Lift: Twenty seven hundred fifty Go to Rose’s site, tummytuckresource.com for more information on tummy tucks and plastic surgery. Indians Looking to Indian Matrimonials Profiles Instead of Arranged Marriage

Monday, March 3rd, 2008

By Eshwarya Patel What was once understood as the norm amongst Indians: arranged marriage is starting to subside. Meeting through matrimonials sites is now the rage. The traditional Indian folk would find a partner for their sons/daughters by letting people in the community know that their child was available. Parents of other available children would get the word and try to make a match. Then things shifted a bit to where people post matrimonial advertisements in the newspaper. The problem that a lot of modern youth feel about it is that there is too much parental involvement in the matchmaking process. Now people are taking it upon themselves to find partners via online matchmaking venues and dating sites. Online matrimonials sites have doubled and tripled in the past 3-5 years alone. As the web grows in popularity, the masses of individuals in India will be using online marriage sites. Right now, many marriage counselors and matchmakers in India are referring people to marriage websites. For people who do not have Internet access, they are able to still log in and join without worry and view profiles. They can make contacts without themselves being online. The beauty of the Internet, making the world find love and romance. It is very common for individuals to be putting up a profile for themselves but parents, uncles, aunts, and siblings also post profiles for prospective brides and grooms. In India, where women are generally looking for love partners before officially graduating, they do not have time to look for partners while married. Therefore, others do it for them.
